Composers 2006
Oscar Colomina i Bosch graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Composition from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in July 2005. On graduating, he won the Orchestra of the Swan/Guildhall School of Music and Drama Composition Prize, as a result of which he was commissioned by the Orchestra of the Swan to write a work for string orchestra to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the orchestra. Open the curtains received its premiere in Stratford-upon-Avon the 14th of November, 2005.
Another recent composition, The Ruinous Circles, was premiered in the 2005 Congress of the Association of European Conservatoires , representing the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Nirmali Fenn scored one of the highest results in music both for the B.Mus (Hons) at the University of New South Wales and also for the M.Mus at The University of Melbourne. She holds a Clarendon Fund Scholarship and an Overseas Research Scheme Award from the University of Oxford to read for a D. Phil. in music composition. She has composed pieces for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Endymion Ensemble, soprano Judith Dodsworth, TinAlley String Quartet, the Nyx Ensemble, Sounds Underground, tuba virtuoso James Gourlay and the Kuss Quartet. Awards include the John Oswald Good Memorial Prize for composition. She is currently writing a piece for Ensemble Cairn as part of the Voix Nouvelles Composition Course 2007.
George Holloway studied Classics at Worcester college Oxford, where he was a choral and instrumental scholar. He sang with Schola Cantorum of Oxford, before coming to Southampton to study for a Masters in composition with Michael Finnissy. He is interested in a range of cultural issues, and tries to reflect them in his music.

Elena Langer studied at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the Royal College of Music and at the Centre Acanthes in France. She is now working on a PhD at the RAM with Simon Bainbridge. There are several recordings of her work, including Transformations (1996/rev 98) for violin and piano and Reflection (1994/rev 98) for piano solo on the Black Box label.
Elena was the Jerwood composer in Association with the Almeida Theatre (2002 - 2003). She was commissioned to write two chamber operas in collaboration with the poet Glyn Maxwell. These commissions - Ariadne and The Girl of Sand - were staged at the Almeida Opera Festival in 2002. Ariadne was also staged in Aldeburgh and Moscow and has received a Priauxl Rainier Prize. In 2004, Elena was supported by the Genesis Foundation to produce a scene for a chamber opera,The Umbrella.
Recent commissions are from the Chamber Music Series "XX/XXI" Bayerische Staatsoper (Munich) and the Canterbury Festival. Another recording, Platch, is scheduled for release in February/March 2006.

Peter Moran was born in Dublin and currently resides in York where he is studying for his PhD in Composition with Nicola LeFanu. In the past he has studied with Kevin O’Connell, Roger Marsh and Michael Finnissy and he has worked with the Crash Ensemble, COMA, Harry Sparnaay and Ensemble 10/10 among others.
His duet for piano and flute, Table-ism received commendation in the 2005 AIC Composition Competition and his theatre piece Three Short Stories was recently selected for the programme of final recitals at the University of York. Current commissions include a work for the Irish Guitar Trio and collaborations are planned with the Concorde Ensemble and microtonal trumpeter Stephen Altoft. A new piece has just been selected for performance at the 2006 Cortona Contemporary Music Festival in Tuscany this July.
Peter is a member of the Association of Irish Composers and the Young Composers Collective.

Andrew Morgan is a composer and a performer.
Composer: New classical and non classical music. Interested in a diverse range of sounds and therefore active in a variety of projects. Composition fellow at the Royal Academy of Music 2004 - 2005 following completion of a masters there. Previously studied composition in Chicago at the DePaul University (1997 - 2001).
Performer: Cello, improvised electronics, conducting, percussion. Has performed in classical ensembles, in small groups with live improvised electronics, free jazz improvisation groups, rock-pop-funk bands, world music ensembles and more.

Having achieved a distinction in her MMus at Royal Holloway, University of London under the supervision of Simon Holt, Janet Oates is now half-way through a part-time PhD in composition there, under Philip Cashian. She won the college composition prize last year with her large string ensemble Jante Framed, and has had a piece chosen for inclusion in a concert on Frankfurt radio later this year. She is interested in vocal writing and the edges of music. Where does it become theatre? What is the nature of the musical experience for both performers and listeners?
Janet is also a singer and flautist, and will be singing the role of Bastienne in Mozart’s Bastien and Bastienne for Isleworth Baroque at the end of June, having directed the company for 3 years.

Deborah Pritchard is studying for a DPhil in Composition and analysis with Dr. Robert Saxton at Oxford. She was awarded the MMus in composition at the RAM, where she studied with Simon Bainbridge. Her work has been performed by the Philharmonia Chamber Orchestra for the Music of Today series, the BBC singers at Marylebone church, and the Composer's Ensemble for the Hoxton New Music Days, among others. It has also been performed in the BMIC's Cutting Edge Series. It has been recorded by the NMC label for a CD entitled The Hoxton Thirteen, and was subsequently broadcast by BBC Radio Three
Deborah is currently working on an a commission from the New English Choir for an a cappella choral piece and is completing her orchestral piece Six Miniatures for Orchestra. The Vision of the Archangles will be performed by the Allegri Quartet in February. In 2005 she was awarded a PRS Foundation Scholarship and has received sponsorship from the South Square Trust, the Broadley Trust and the Blakey Trust for her studies in Oxford.

Born in 1980 in Geneva, Greogorio Zanon started studying composition in 1997 with Mr. Jean Balissat. His first String Quartet (2000), written for leading Swiss quartet Terpsycordes, has received over twenty performances across Europe (Paris, Milan, Venice, Geneva, Evian, Cairo…)
Between September 2001 and June 2004, he studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Dominic Muldowney, Philip Cashian and Brian Elias. His graduation portfolio, which included a work commissioned by The London Strings - Allegro Esaltato - was awarded the Arthur Huttinson Prize. Recent commissions and premieres include a Concerto Grosso, a concerto for cello and a second string quartet. In September 2006, the Swiss label Claves Records will release his first CD, featuring his chamber music.
